For over 200 years the cultivation of sugar beet has formed the basis of sugar production in Europe. Today beet farmers and sugar producers ensure that EU consumers are reliably supplied with this natural product. Today the challenge to find the balance between environmental concerns and agricultural production have to be answered with efficient production choices in order to guarantee high levels of production to supply the market and respect high environmental standards imposed by the new CAP expected by the society.
In this context sugar beet growing have became a model of sustainability with ever increasing yields and lesser input use. The agricultural and industrial side of sugar production are more and more committed to the environmental challenges and aways searching for innovative and efficient solutions.
